Application Areas
Integrated Staff Resource Planning is useful for any organisation that employs or uses Human Resources which covers the whole spectrum of economic activity. However there are areas where staff resource planning has been used:
- MANUFACTURING: Staff Rotas and Shift management is important in manufacturing, both for repetitive procedures and also for "order" based production. This can be seen as significant in the optimisation of the processes over time and important in the planning for the use of special equipment and the continuity of the processes.
- CONTACT CENTRE: A contact or Call Centre is a labour intensive organisation where it is critical to maintain staffing levels in line with potential incoming calls and in the management of outbound calls. As the Contact Centre is often the main instrument for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) it requires both the management of staffing levels and the integration with Skill Factors, and the realtime switching of Calls to the relevant skill sets.
- CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING: Each project will have its own particular structure, and there will be many variables, in time, location, requirements and available resources. This will require both longterm and short bterm planning, often determined by the project planning itself, into which the variables of staff resource planning must be integrated.
- PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: In various areas of public administration, for example HealthCare and Community care there is a need to maintain standards in the servicesgiven to the public. Whether the service is centralised (that is the public come to receive the service at a central place) or distributed (the service is carried out at the home of the client), it is important to respect the appointment and have the correct skillset and equipment available.
- HOSPITALITY, TOURISM AND ENTERTAINMENT: In this area where human interaction is of the highest importance it is essential to maintain the necessary staffing levels at all times to rnsure customer satisfaction, The requirements can be very variable in both time and location,.
- BANKS: Apart from the issues of staffing levels, staff planning can be used to manage certain security issues. It is important to maintain levels of security through the identity of individuals. This is dealt with in part by special security applications that can use different forms of algorithm to identify a person, but these applications in themselves do not necessarily guarantee full security. Integrating working patterns into the security issue may add another layer of protection.
